“They will let him go”- Ex-scout believes Tottenham will land young Chelsea defender; Blues open to selling him

Chelsea talent Josh Acheampong is facing an uncertain future as Tottenham are keen to land the defender
Tottenham are stacked in the centre-back position and would not need a new defender if the key players decide to stay put. However, there is still time in the transfer market and anything can happen in terms of outgoings and incomings. The Lilywhites cannot take a step back and become complacent at any stage during the summer, as some players might still want to leave the club.
First-choice centre-back Cristian Romero is the most likely candidate to head out in the summer amid constant transfer links. The Argentina international has come through leaps and bounds at N17, quickly becoming one of the standout players in the team. So, there is no surprise that top Spanish clubs are vying for his signature for next season. But Spurs also want to keep the 27-year-old, despite Romero’s admission of playing in a new country.

However, the Lilywhites are more than covered at the back even if Cristian Romero decides to head for the exit doors. Kevin Danso is waiting in the wings for an opportunity to feature regularly in the first team. And the arrival of Luka Vuskovic and Kota Takai in the summer also suggests that Spurs have enough depth at the back for the time being.
Tottenham are interested in signing Chelsea talent Josh Acheampong
It was reported earlier that Tottenham are willing to land Chelsea talent Josh Acheampong in the summer. The young defender has not managed to breakthrough at Stamford Bridge, and the limited game-time under Enzo Maresca is stunting his growth at the club. But Spurs also face competition from other top clubs for the 19-year-old’s signature. The aforementioned report also stated that Chelsea have set an asking price of £35m for his services.
Now, ex-scout Mick Brown believes that the Blues would be open to selling the centre-back in the summer. Speaking to Football Insider, Brown said,
“There’s been a bit of talk about Josh Acheampong, which may have come from the agent, suggesting he could be leaving Chelsea. From what I hear, that might have come from club trying to drum up interest in him. As it stands, it’s unlikely that he’ll get into the Chelsea team with what they’ve already got.”
The ex-scout added,
“Enzo Maresca doesn’t see him breaking into the starting XI and wasn’t overly keen to give him chances last season, although he did give him a few. I think if offers come in for him, they’re going to be willing to let him go. In terms of interest, Newcastle and Tottenham have been mentioned, so let’s see if they make a move.”
Mick Brown has suggested that Chelsea are trying to ‘drum up’ interest in Josh Acheampong in the summer. The ex-scout added that the 19-year-old is not looking likely to break into the first-team at Stamford Bridge, and the Blues would consider selling the centre-back if the right offers come in. Brown also points out that Newcastle United and Tottenham are leading the race for his signature, and would need to make a quickly to land him.

Spurs are looking to add more players to bolster their pool of young talents. On paper, signing Acheampong makes sense as the youngster can either operate as a centre-back, or as a makeshift right-back. Having recently signed a new deal at Stamford Bridge, it would be tough for the Lilywhites to lure the 19-year-old away from the club unless the right offer comes in.
It is important to suggest that Tottenham might look for experienced defenders as they already have a few young talents in their ranks that could fill up the position in the coming years.
