One very common feature of the Premier League food chain is that the traditional big clubs often get their way when it comes to sign transfer targets from those not as big as them. This is a privilege available to very few clubs and Tottenham are one of them.
It doesn’t matter that Spurs finished 17th last season in the Premier League. It doesn’t matter that Brentford finished at a much higher spot than they did last season. All it matters if that the North London club are a traditional big-6.
The Bees have taken a massive beating in terms of squad depth this summer. Their talisman, Bryan Mbeumo, moved to Manchester United while their mastermind over the past few years, Thomas Frank, move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Brentford make the difficult decision to let Yoane Wissa leave

It only looks like a matter of time before Yoane Wissa, who pulled out of pre-season training, jumps ship to a bigger club with Spurs in the mix. Who would say no to a reunion with their former manager who had so much trust in him?
Now, as per journalist Ben Jacobs (h/t Caught Offside), Brentford have now made the decision to allow Wissa to leave the club this summer provided they are able to sort out a replacement for him. This comes as a boost for Spurs.
Thomas Frank’s side are not alone in their interest in the striker, with Newcastle United also wanting to sign the Congo international. The Magpies are in pole position to sign him, but the Thomas Frank factor could tip the scales in favour of the North London club.
Will Spurs make a concrete push?
The Danish tactician labelled Wissa as a “fantastic striker”, and the 28-year-old would help provide competition to Dominic Solanke at Spurs. The only concern would be that the club already have Mathys Tel.
One of the biggest advantages that Tottenham have this summer is that despite their extremely poor Premier League season is the fact that they lifted the Europa League trophy last year. This gives them Champions League football for the upcoming campaign.
It remains to be seen whether Spurs are keen on signing Wissa this summer. They will have to convince him to choose them ahead of the Tyneside-based club and let’s wait and see how things play out.
