‘Solid’ defensive star expected to stay at Tottenham Hotspur this summer

Date:

Antonin Kinsky is set to stay at Tottenham Hotspur this summer

Tottenham Hotspur’s return to the Champions League in the 2025/26 season is the end of a long wait. Spurs achieved what had eluded them for some years by winning the Europa League final against Manchester United last season. That final showed the extent to which Ange Postecoglou’s thinking has transformed the players, but this summer, a new chapter began with the arrival of Thomas Frank. There has been a change, but so has the enthusiasm increased in the fans.

Tottenham’s summer began with aggressive player purchases. Mohammed Kudus has arrived at the club, and Mathys Tel has been signed permanently. It is a clear sign that the club are not stopping their pursuit to strengthen the squad. A return to the Champions League means we need a squad with depth, and that is why every position is being strengthened. While some players have come, there is also speculation about some leaving the club this summer.

Questions raised about Kinsky

Antonin Kinsky, who was brought in on a six-year-plus contract in January 2025, is now being named in the potential outgoing list. He made his debut in the EFL Cup semi-final against Liverpool and kept a clean sheet, but he has been the second choice behind Guglielmo Vicario throughout the season. Now, L’Equipe reported that Lille are looking at him as a replacement for PSG-bound Lucas Chevalier.

Antonin Kinsky has been linked with a Tottenham departure seven months after arriving in North London.

Meanwhile, John Wenham, who owns the Lilywhite Rose, believes that talk of Kinsky leaving is pointless at the moment. He said to Tottenham Hotspur News that the club have invested a lot of money in the 22-year-old goalkeeper recently. Kinsky’s importance increases further after Keeley’s departure. If Vicario gets injured, less experienced options like Austin or Gunter will not work. So it is important to keep Kinsky.

“I can’t really see that one happening, to be honest with you.”

“We invested a lot of money in him just last January, and we’ve seen Josh Keeley move on and depart the club. So, were there to be an injury to Vicario, we would straightaway be left with Brandon Austin or Luca Gunter for a club that’s going to be hopefully competing in the UEFA Champions League, among other areas. We need a big squad, and we need Kinsky as a solid international goalkeeper.”

Kinsky should stay

We think it would not be the right decision for the 22-year-old to leave Tottenham at this time. He has a future at the club, and he could compete with Vicario next season. The Czech Republic goalkeeper has youthful energy, confidence and has proven himself in big matches. If he performs well this pre-season, Thomas Frank might give him more chances.

With Thomas Frank coming in, it is a new start for everyone in the squad. So there couldn’t be a better time for Kinsky to show himself that he deserves the number one spot. He has played international matches for the Czech Republic, which gives him experience. The 22-year-old just needs the right time, as it will be too early to consider him as a constant number one. However, we do need depth in that position, and Kinsky could become an important part of that depth.
