Tottenham Hotspur were interested in Marc Casado before bringing in Joao Palhinha
The milestone Tottenham achieved by beating Manchester United in last season’s Europa League final was special for every Spurs fan. Under the leadership of Ange Postecoglou, the club regained their lost confidence despite a shambolic season in the Premier League. Now the return to the Champions League in 2025/26 is certain. However, another big change happened this summer as Thomas Frank is now the new manager. Frank is now looking to add a different colour to the foundation that Ange laid. The club have already sharpened their attack by signing Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel.
Tottenham are now ready to take on the big teams of Europe, but Frank knows that trophies are not won just by attack; balance and security are needed in midfield. This is where one name came into discussion, and that is FC Barcelona midfielder Marc Casadó. The club are thinking in this direction, as Frank wants a player in his squad who can control the ball, set the tempo and recover balls.
Spurs move for Marc Casadó
Barcelona’s young midfielder Marc Casadó played 36 matches last season and spent 2,447 minutes on the field. He played for the senior team for the first time in March 2024. SPORT have reported that Tottenham showed interest in him and also talked to Barcelona. Chelsea and Atlético Madrid are also after him. According to the same report, Hans-Dieter Flick is not going to give him many chances next season, and hence, Barcelona are ready to sell the 21-year-old at €30m, but Casadó does not want to leave Camp Nou at the moment. When Spurs got to know this, they turned their attention to João Palhinha, who is now on loan from Bayern Munich.
Why Casadó and why not now?

What should we do now?
Casadó is just 21 years old. Sharp in his passing, savvy in his positioning and smart in his tackling, he could have been the hidden weapon in Frank’s system. Frank has thrived at Brentford with midfielders who have a relentless work ethic and fight for the ball. If the Spaniard arrived at Spurs, he would have been a great competition for Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr. The 21-year-old defensive midfielder would have been a profile that would strengthen our midfield.
However, if a player doesn’t want to come, it’s not wise to stay in the hunt Spurs did the right thing by bringing in Palhinha. He has already proven he is ready for the big stage. We can forget that Casadó has a lot of talent, but even if the Spaniard changes his mind at the end of the transfer window, there is no turning back. Frank should want players who want to play for Tottenham, not those who need to be persuaded. It’s time to move on, because the Champions League is back, and Tottenham aren’t going to stop.
