Tottenham contact Ligue 1 outcast as summer deadline draws near; competition heavy ahead of transfer tussle

Date:

Marseille midfielder Adrien Rabiot has a decision to make as Tottenham Hotspur circle

Tottenham are still looking to upgrade their squad for this season before the transfer window shuts shop. Fans will hope that the Lilywhites are leaving the best for the last as time is running out to sign quality players before deadline day. However, looking at how the transfer window has gone for the North London club, it will not be a surprise if Daniel Levy manages to not bring anyone at all.

There is a clear need to bring in a new midfielder that could compete with Joao Palhinha in the middle of the park. The Portugal international, who Spurs bought on an initial loan for this season, is not the kind of player to play three games in a week. No one can question Palhinha’s importance on the pitch under Thomas Frank. But the 30-year-old does not have the legs to play week in week out against elite teams.

Tottenham are looking to make a late move for Marseille midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

And it is also important to note that Yves Bissouma is more than likely to head for the exit doors in the coming days. The Mali international is linked with a move to West Ham after falling out with Thomas Frank due to disciplinary issues. So, Daniel Levy would need to bring in a new #6 that would take Bissouma’s spot in the team.

Tottenham keeping tabs on Marseille star Adrien Rabiot

There is no surprise that Tottenham are looking to bring in a new midfielder that could provide extra depth in the middle of the park. With Thomas Frank aiming to compete hard on all four fronts this season, the Lilywhites need to have enough quality on all areas of the pitch. And Daniel Levy is looking to do exactly that by being active in the last few days of the transfer window.

As per Fabrice Hawkins (via X), Spurs have contacted Olympique Marseille midfielder Adrien Rabiot’s entourage. The France international has fallen out of favour under Roberto De Zerbi after a training ground bust-up with a fellow teammate. And this has prompted the Ligue1 giants to place him on the transfer market, hoping that a club would make a move for him.

The reliable journalist also reports that Tottenham are not the only ones willing to land the 30-year-old. AC Milan and Aston Villa are also keeping tabs on the experienced midfielder’s situation in France. However, neither Spurs, nor the other two clubs have contacted Olympique Marseille for a possible deal involving Adrien Rabiot.

Well, a lot of eyebrows will be raised if Spurs are serious about landing the ex-PSG midfielder. He is not the kind of profile the Lilywhites are usually looking for in the market. And it can also be said that Rabiot is past his peak, with the player already being 30-years-old. However, his experience could come in handy when Thomas Frank’s men take on elite teams in the Champions League.
