Brazilian star ready to move as Tottenham initiate ‘new contacts’ with his agent; Fabrizio Romano confirms

Date:

West Ham star Lucas Paqueta has made the decision to leave the Hammers amid Tottenham Hotspur interest

Tottenham have suffered enough in the transfer window as they continue their search for a new attacking midfielder. The Lilywhites have tried their luck for every #10 that is available in the market, showcasing the lack of planning by Daniel Levy for that position. And yet, the North London club has not managed to bring in a player that could fill out that role this season.

The summer plans turned upside down after James Maddison ruptured his ACL earlier this month, leaving the England international out for most parts of the season. To make matters worse, Thomas Frank does not have enough depth in that position, forcing Spurs to be in the market for a new player.

Tottenham might just be able to land West Ham star Lucas Paqueta before the transfer window shuts.

The Lilywhites were on the cusp of signing Eberechi Eze earlier last week after agreeing personal terms with the player. The England international’s move was almost sealed, as both clubs waited to find an agreement on the transfer fee. However, Daniel Levy’s dilly-dallying gave Arsenal an opportunity to come in at the eleventh-hour and hijack the deal for Eze’s signature.

Tottenham receive massive boost in their efforts to land West Ham star Lucas Paqueta

It was reported earlier that Spurs are keeping tabs on West Ham star Lucas Paqueta to fill out that #10 role for the Lilywhites this season. The Brazil international is facing an uncertain future at the London Stadium, and Daniel Levy has taken notice of that. The report also states that the Hammers have lowered their valuation for Paqueta from £80m to £40m, and would consider selling him if the right opportunity arises.

Now, Tottenham have received a massive boost in their hopes of landing the West Ham attacker. As per Fabrizio Romano (via YouTube),

“I confirm my information I gave you last night on Lucas Paqueta. Tottenham had new contacts today with the agents of Lucas Paqueta, and Paqueta is an option being considered by Tottenham for the No.10 position. Paqueta is open to leaving West Ham, as I told you days ago.”

The journalist added,

“Tottenham are considering this move for Paqueta. It’s not something imminent or something close, but Paqueta is an option. They made contact to understand the details of the deal for the Brazilian. Paqueta also has some interest from Saudi Arabia, but his priority would be Europe.”

Initiating contact with Lucas Paqueta’s entourage again clearly means that Tottenham are serious about getting the deal done before the transfer window shuts. The Brazil international has also given clear indications that he is open to leave the Hammers and come to N17 if an opportunity arises. However, Spurs will have to fend off competition from Saudi clubs if they want to land the attacking midfielder, with the 27-year-old maintaining the stance of playing in Europe.

Signing Lucas Paqueta will be a major coup if Spurs can find a way to strike a deal with West Ham. Having already lost Mohammed Kudus to the Lilywhites, there are some concerns that the Hammers will not allow the lightning to strike twice. However, a good offer put in by Daniel Levy might just force the Stratford-based club to part ways with the 27-year-old.
