Tottenham Hotspur target Kobbie Mainoo is ready to leave Manchester United in search of regular minutes
Tottenham have endured an underwhelming summer for more reasons than one. The Lilywhites were on ‘Cloud 9’ after beating all odds and winning the Europa League in May. And the historic achievement was also supposed to play a huge factor in convincing quality players to join the North London club as Spurs looked to build on the Europa League success under Thomas Frank.
But the Lilywhites have just not managed to address the issues on the pitch and bring in the players that they needed. Spurs clearly need a new midfielder that could replace Yves Bissouma in the squad after the Mali international fell down the pecking order under Thomas Frank. The 28-year-old is now linked with a move away from the club as we approach the business-end of the transfer window.

That is not the only problem that Tottenham are facing right now. Experienced midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur is also facing an uncertain future at the club as he enters the final year of his contract. The Uruguay international has shown no signs of extending his contract as of now, and it looks like he might also be on his way sooner or later.
Tottenham receive massive boost in their hunt for Man United star Kobbie Mainoo
Tottenham are short in manpower in the middle of the park after James Maddison ruptured his ACL earlier this month. The England international is out for most parts of the season, forcing the Lilywhites to look at replacements in the market to fill the void left behind by the Spurs No.10. With Yves Bissouma also not favoured by Thomas Frank, there is an urgent need to sign a versatile midfielder.
One of the names that has been mentioned at N17 is of Kobbie Mainoo. The Manchester United star is clearly not favoured by Ruben Amorim, forcing Mainoo to look at other options as he seeks for regular game time this season. And Spurs have clearly taken notice of that as they look to land him against all odds before the window shuts.
Now, the Lilywhites have received a positive update in their pursuit of Mainoo. As per Fabrizio Romano (via X), the young Englishman has informed Manchester United that he wants to leave the club on loan for this season. The 20-year-old wants to play regularly after falling down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim. However, the talented midfielder has made it clear that he is not seeking a permanent exit by any means.
In all honesty, Spurs should do everything they can to sign the England international for this season. It is clear that he is one of the best talents in the world right now, and bringing him to N17 would surely elevate the quality of the midfield by a certain extent. Mainoo will thrive under Thomas Frank, as the Danish tactician wants his midfielders to be good on the ball and drift through the phases by finding half-spaces between the defensive lines. Will a move to North London happen? Time will tell.
