Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is on the radars of both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham’s defensive rebuild under Thomas Frank has seen the club strongly linked with Ronald Araujo in recent months, but they may now face even stiffer competition for the Barcelona centre-back. Liverpool have stepped up their pursuit, joining Chelsea and Spurs in the race for the 26-year-old Uruguay international.
That is as per Sport. Araujo, one of La Liga’s most consistent defenders in recent seasons, oversaw a lot of interest in January and was even close to leaving the Catalan giants before eventually penning a long-term deal with them. With Barca needing to ease financial pressure, they can expect big bids from Premier League sides, and Tottenham are among the clubs keeping a close watch.
For Spurs, the appeal of Araujo is clear. He combines power, pace, and excellent positioning, making him a natural fit for the physical demands of English football. Alongside his South American counterpart Cristian Romero, he could form a formidable defensive pairing, giving Tottenham the stability they have sometimes lacked in the biggest fixtures.

Is it even possible?
His situation at Barca is also not very straightforward despite signing the new deal. He has not got off to the best of starts this term and even started on the bench in the big UEFA Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain. That makes one wonder whether he might push for an exit soon.
Multiple suitors include Liverpool, who view him as an immediate replacement to Ibrahima Konate, who might follow in the footsteps of Trent Alexander-Arnold towards Real Madrid on a Bosman. That, and also finding a long-term Virgil van Dijk replacement. Chelsea continue to see themselves in the mix.
Tottenham’s challenge will be convincing Araujo that North London is the right environment for him to thrive. Frank’s arrival has undoubtedly lifted the project, with the club competing at the top end of the Premier League again, but luring a player of Araujo’s calibre will require both financial muscle and clear sporting vision.

Barcelona’s stance will be another major factor. The Catalan giants are reluctant sellers, but their financial struggles mean high-value assets like Araujo are not completely off-limits. Spurs will need to be strategic and decisive if they are to land him, but with Liverpool and Chelsea now circling, the fight has become significantly harder.
