Liverpool lead the race for Tottenham target; Reds willing to offer £100m in January

Date:

Liverpool ready to go big for Tottenham Hotspur target Antoine Semenyo

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to make key additions in the upcoming transfer window as they look to build on their impressive start to the season. Few expected the Lilywhites to be competing for a top-four spot in the Premier League this year, but under Thomas Frank, the team has exceeded expectations. Now, Spurs must strengthen strategically to sustain their momentum in the second half of the campaign.

So far, Tottenham have overperformed in almost every area, sitting just two points behind league leaders Arsenal. Thomas Frank will be hoping that the club’s hierarchy backs him in January with signings capable of closing that gap and keeping the club in contention for a Champions League place. One of the key areas the North London side are reportedly targeting is the left-wing position.

At present, Frank has Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert alternating on the left flank. While both have shown promise, neither can be relied upon to carry the workload across an entire season, especially if Spurs are serious about competing on all fronts. Signing a natural left-winger who can provide a consistent upgrade is becoming increasingly essential.

Tottenham suffer setback in their pursuit of Antoine Semenyo

Recent reports suggest Tottenham want to land Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth on a permanent deal in January. The Lilywhites view him as an ideal replacement of Heung-Min Son and believe that he has all the attributes to become a key player under Thomas Frank. The report also states that the Cherries would only allow the Ghanaian to leave if a potential suitor matches their £70m asking price in the coming months.

The asking price may sound absurd at first, but Semenyo has done more than enough to show that he is one of the best attackers in the Premier League this season. In just eight matches across all competitions this season, the 25-year-old has already managed to score six goals and provide three assists for Bournemouth. His explosive displays have been central to Bournemouth’s strong start, and the club’s decision to extend his contract last summer is already paying dividends.

Securing his signature, though, will be far from straightforward for Spurs. According to Indykaila news (via X), Liverpool are currently leading the race for Semenyo and are prepared to make a £100 million bid to bring him to Anfield in January. The report adds that Liverpool’s sporting director Richard Hughes is already in direct contact with Bournemouth officials as he looks to finalise a deal.

For Tottenham, this development poses a major challenge, potentially costing them a chance to sign one of the Premier League’s most in-form attackers. However, it could also motivate the Lilywhites to table a competitive offer of their own and present Semenyo with a project difficult to turn down under Thomas Frank.

As for the player himself, Semenyo’s future remains uncertain. Reports suggest the Ghana international could also be open to a move abroad if the right opportunity arises before the window opens. Regardless of where he ends up, it seems only a matter of time before the 25-year-old earns a big move. And Tottenham will be hoping they can convince him that his next chapter belongs in North London.
