New clause sheds light on potential N17 return for iconic Tottenham ace

Heung-Min Son left a lasting legacy at Tottenham during his ten-year stint at N17

Tottenham legend Heung-Min Son ended his decade long stint at N17 in the most perfect way possible, captaining the club to its first major trophy in 17 years. When the South Korean forward arrived from Bayer Leverkusen, few could have predicted the incredible legacy he would go on to create. But his contributions over ten memorable years have firmly etched his name into the club’s history books.

He played an important role for the North London club right until his very last match for them. During his time at N17, he formed a formidable partnership with Harry Kane, with the pair arguably becoming the most dangerous duo in Premier League history. They created havoc in England and were on par with other greats during their time together at Hotspur Way before Kane decided to call quits on his Spurs career.

Tottenham return remains a possibility for Heung-Min Son.

Even after Kane departed, Son’s loyalty never wavered. Instead of following suit, the South Korean signed a contract extension, further endearing himself to the Spurs faithful. That loyalty was ultimately rewarded when he lifted the Europa League trophy, a moment that felt like poetic justice for a player who had given everything to the club.

Tottenham fans hopeful of Heung-Min Son return

One can only imagine how good Heung-Min Son would have been under Thomas Frank. The Danish tactician likes to depend on his wide players for making an impact in the final third of the pitch. And it would be fair to suggest that Son would still be one of the best players in the squad had he stayed at N17 for another year. But it was not meant to be and the 32-year-old decided to head for the MLS in the summer.

Now, the Spurs faithful have received a positive update regarding a potential homecoming for the legendary winger. As per SunSport (via GMS), Son has a special clause in his LAFC contract that allows him to make a loan switch during the MLS’ off-season. This means that the legendary player would be allowed to return to Europe for three to four months and play for a top club in March next year.

This might just tempt the Lilywhites to make a move for the legendary winger and bring him to N17 once again. Spurs need a new left-winger in any case for the second-half of the season. And what better way to replace Heung-Min Son by signing the man himself? The only factor making the move difficult would be his salary demands. As of now, Son is the highest earner in the MLS, ahead of Lionel Messi. So, he would have to take a pay-cut to come back to North London.

It remains to be seen whether Tottenham act on this and make a move for the 32-year-old. Son could still make an impact in the Premier League under Thomas Frank. And who knows? He might just be the man to help the Lilywhites win yet another major trophy this season.
