Daniel Levy trying his best to keep Tottenham star at N17; UCL qualification is key

Tottenham star Cristian Romero is linked with other clubs amid uncertain future
Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero has thoroughly enjoyed the last few days at N17. The Argentina international was one of the key players to ensure the Europa League success on Wednesday night against Manchester United. The 27-year-old was strong at the back and he was also elected as the Man of the Match in the final for his defensive masterclass.
Romero just showed why he is considered as one of the best defenders in world football. There is a reason why the ex-Atalanta centre-back has not lost a final he has played in. The Spurs No.17 is always at the right place and does not let anything get by him while defending the goal. The Lilywhites ensured a colossal win against the Red Devils to secure silverware after 17-long years, thanks to the resolute defensive display by Cristian Romero and his teammates.

As per Sofascore, the 27-year-old registered 10 clearances and blocked one shot during the game against Man United in the Europa League final. The prolific centre-back also completed 12 out of the 13 passes he attempted (92% accuracy), and won nine duels during the game. The Argentina international was everywhere on the pitch and got a match rating of 7.4 for his strong performance.
Tottenham trying their best to keep Cristian Romero at N17
There is no secret that Cristian Romero wants to leave Tottenham for pastures new in the summer. The ex-Atalanta player still has two years remaining in his Spurs contract, but Romero wants to challenge himself in a new environment next season after managing to win silverware for the North London club this season.
The 27-year-old admitted earlier last month that he intends to move to Spain in the future to play in the La Liga amongst the best players. His comments did no go down well with Tottenham fans as they thought their star defender was forcing a move. It was reported earlier as well that Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are keen for his services and would pay good money to sign him in the summer.
But now, Fabrizio Romano has shared that Spurs are doing everything they can to prolong his stay at N17. The centre-back still has two years left in his contract, so Tottenham are in no hurry to sell him. Romano also states that Daniel Levy is trying to convince Romero to stay at N17 after the Lilywhites ensured Champions League qualification for next season.
There is a growing feeling around Tottenham that the club might lose the Argentine centre-back in the summer. This can also be a blessing in disguise as Spurs will then have the opportunity to buy a quality replacement to fill his void. The Lilywhites are linked with a move for Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi. Daniel Levy sees him as the ideal replacement of Romero and wants to bring the England international to N17quickly.

Guehi is a leader on the pitch and has endured a successful campaign at Selhurst Park. Under his leadership, the Eagles secured their first ever major trophy this season as well. Palace defeated Manchester City to win the FA Cup and ensure a place in the Europa League for next season. Winning the trophy would have surely increased Guehi’s stocks as well and Daniel Levy will need to act quick if he wants to land the centre-back at N17.
