Tottenham have replaced Ange Postecoglou with Thomas Frank for next season

Tottenham Hotspur have been in the media spotlight for a lot of reasons in recent weeks. The Lilywhites managed to save their blushes at the end of the season by winning the Europa League against all odds. The historic win also came after Ange Postecoglou promised that he would win a trophy in his second season at a club. It is fair to say that the Australian tactician delivered on his promise in spectacular fashion.

However, the North London club endured a disastrous Premier League campaign that did not help Big Ange’s cause in any way. Spurs finished the season just a place above the relegation zone, registering 22 losses along the way and failing to reach the 40-point mark. Although the Europa League success was a historic achievement, it was clear that it did not totally overshadow the domestic failures endured by the team.

After months of speculation and rumours, Daniel Levy decided to sack Ange Postecoglou just two weeks after the Europa League success. From an emotional standpoint, it might not have been the best decision as Big Ange was finally forming a connection with the fans. But from a practical point of view, it does make sense that Levy decided to relieve the Australian from his duties at N17.

Tottenham sacked Ange Postecoglou due to the poor domestic form

One cannot run a football club purely based on emotions and sentiments. While the fans might be displeased with Ange Postecoglou getting sacked, it was the right decision to relieve him from his duties due to the poor domestic form. In hindsight, Daniel Levy’s decision to replace the Australian might be looked as the turning point in the club’s history for all the good reasons.

Now, ex-Liverpool star Stan Collymore also believes Levy took the right decision by sacking Big Ange. Writing in his CaughtOffside column, Collymore said,

“I don’t understand this supposed revolt at Tottenham after Ange’s sacking. The decision was obviously taken because of the poor performance in the Premier League, but it is because of them that they ended up in 17th. Had they been better and maybe tried harder, he would still be at the club.”

Stan Collymore cannot understand why the fans are against the sack decision. The ex-Liverpool star pointed out that Spurs finished the Premier League campaign in 17th place, and that alone was a valid reason to sack Ange Postecoglou. Collymore added that the players should have tried harder and played better, if they wanted to keep Big Ange at the helm for next season.

However, it is too late now for the players to ponder over this decision. Spurs announced the hiring of Thomas Frank as their new manager for next season. The fans should be excited by this appointment as Frank is considered to be one of the best in the business and has done a tremendous job at Brentford. The first order of business for the Danish tactician will be to get the players back on board before next season starts.
