Fenerbahce and Tottenham have been locked in negotiations for Yves Bissouma
Yves Bissouma has symbolised Tottenham Hotspur’s inconsistency during his time in North London.
When Spurs signed the Mali international from Brighton and Hove Albion back in 2022, it was considered a huge coup following his strong performances across four seasons at the Amex Stadium, where he established himself as one of the most dominant central midfielders in the Premier League.
However, things have not gone according to the plan at White Hart Lane, and after a brief resurgence under former boss Ange Postecoglou during the early parts of the 2023/24 campaign, his last 18 months have been marred by highly inconsistent performances and ill-discipline. With one year left on his contract, the Hotspur Way chiefs are planning to move Yves Bissouma on this summer.

Fenerbahce have appeared to show the most concrete interest in the combative midfielder, who made 44 appearances for Spurs last season. Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho has identified Bissouma as a potential replacement for Fred, and the Turkish club made their interest felt in the player by sending an official to meet him and his agents in London last week.
Negotiations between Tottenham and Fenerbahce have stalled for Yves Bissouma
Bissouma is open to joining Fenerbahce this summer as he plans to start a new chapter in his career after seven years in England.
Now, according to Turkish news outlet Fanatik, Fenerbahce have ‘stepped on the brakes’ after being informed by Tottenham it would take an offer in the region of €20m to sign Bissouma this summer. As a result, they are now looking at other central midfield options and Bayer Leverkusen’s Granit Xhaka has emerged as a target.

Spurs had offered Bissouma to the Istanbul-based club at the start of the summer transfer window, and after weeks of deliberation, the two clubs have entered into negotiations. The North Londoners want around €20m, which is a fair price considering that the Malian star has proven himself in the Premier League and is into the peak of his powers at 28. Plus, he has 12 months left on his existing deal.
Fenerbahce appear hesitant to pay that fee and have held meetings with Xhaka’s agent. Despite their interest in the former Arsenal midfielder, the aforementioned report adds the Jose Mourinho-managed club haven’t given up on signing Bissouma and they will continue to have talks with Tottenham to see if they decide to lower their demands.

Having not lived up to his full potential at White Hart Lane and now into the final year of his contract, Tottenham must offload Bissouma. His chapter at the club appears to be drawing to a close, and if Fenerbahce are facing problems paying the quoted valuation, the key decision-makers at our club should show some flexibility in negotiations and allow the move to go through.
