Tottenham could bring promising SPL star to North London amidst Steven Gerrard claims

Reliable journalist is confident Tottenham have a recall option in Mikey Moore’s loan at Rangers

Mikey Moore joined Rangers on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer and the move has not gone to plan for the academy starlet.

The teenager enjoyed his breakout campaign at White Hart Lane last season, racking up 19 appearances in all competitions, but new boss Thomas Frank and the Hotspur Way chiefs made the decision to send him out on loan. Russell Martin, after being appointed as the new Rangers boss in June, convinced the winger to join his side at the Ibrox ahead of several Championship clubs.

However, following a disastrous start to the season which yielded just one win in seven Scottish Premiership games, Russell Martin was sacked by the Gers last week. Following Martin’s axing, Spurs are now closely monitoring Mikey Moore’s situation at Rangers.

Steven Gerrard appears set for an emotional return to Rangers, having previously had a spell in Glasgow between 2018 and 2021. The decision is set to affect the development of Mikey Moore, and as a result, the prospect of the youngster returning to Tottenham has been mooted.

Alasdair Gold reveals Moore could return to Tottenham

As expected, Tottenham are constantly keeping checks on what is happening at Rangers following Martin’s sacking. It is unlikely the Hotspur Way bosses will act until they have known the new Gers manager’s plans for Moore, but reliable journalist Alasdair Gold is confident Spurs will have an option to recall their academy kid if required.

“I’m sure there’ll be an option to bring him back in January if it continues this way,” Alasdair Gold said on his YouTube channel.

“Because if the new manager, I mean, there’s been talk of Steven Gerrard, whoever it may be, if they don’t play him, you’ve got to get him back straight away.

“There are a few Championship clubs I think sniffing around him.”

Spurs must recall Moore amid loan interest from Championship clubs

Indeed, it’d be pointless to keep Moore in Glasgow if Steven Gerrard- the potential new Rangers boss- has no plans to use him regularly. The 18-year-old has paid the price of the Scottish giants’ mismanagement and torrid spell under Martin. There were huge expectations of the raw and sprightly winger on his first loan spell of his career, but he has failed to live up to those.

As per recent reports, Tottenham have no “immediate plans” to recall Moore in January. As surprising as it sounds, the north London club bosses are perhaps waiting how the next couple of months goes under the new Rangers boss’ management before taking a decision.

With interest from several Championship clubs there, as revealed by Gold, Spurs must consider recalling Moore in January if his situation at Rangers does not improve and loan him to a mid-table Championship club for the second half of the season. The Englishman is one of our academy’s gifted talents and we cannot waste one year of his career.
