Tottenham Hotspur ready to sell left-back Sergio Reguilon for €30 million

According to El Confidencial, Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are ready to part ways with Spanish star Sergio Reguilon for €30 million.

The 26-year-old arrived at Spurs in 2020 but has failed to live up to expectations. He made 67 appearances for the club since, scoring twice and making nine assists across all competitions. While he has had his moments, the full-back has struggled to make a lasting impact.

He has fallen so far down the pecking order that he spent the previous season on loan at Atletico Madrid. Earning his stripes at the Wanda Metropolitano was hard enough given his previous allegiance with Real Madrid, but his performances left much to be desired.

Injuries and a general lack of consistency cost Reguilon dearly in his time at Atletico. He looked a shadow of the player who impressed at Sevilla and failed to take his chances. It is telling that the Spanish giants did not make a move to sign him on a permanent basis with Diego Simeone also not a big fan.

A return to north London is unlikely to be a saving grace given that Ange Postecoglou is not keen to work with the player. Given that he has also gotten into trouble with Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, the signs do not look good for Reguilon.

Selling Reguilon will net Tottenham a fee that can then be reinvested back into the squad. Given that we are undertaking a new path, it is imperative that the right players form the core of our playing squad.

With Destiny Udogie set to play a bigger role at N-17 next season, selling Reguilon is something we can live with. The fact that we did not miss him last season is telling.

Having signed Guglielmo Vicario and James Maddison, Tottenham’s summer business is off to a good start. Hopefully there will be more incomings this season as Postecoglou attempts to put together a resurgent roster.
