Joe Hart sends Ange Postecoglou message after "agenda-driven" media criticism

Ange Postecoglou is another step closer to the Tottenham exit door after his side’s FA Cup exit by the hands of Aston Villa on the weekend.

He hasn’t lost his supporters completely, though, and one of his former players was quick to come to his aid after the game.

After his side lost to Aston Villa at the weekend, Ange Postecoglou was offered some public words of support by one of his Celtic players, Joe Hart, who was part of the punditry team covering the game on the BBC.

“Stay strong – it’s a real tough moment. You can see that he feels it, his heart is on his sleeve,’

“At this moment in time he is really being tested. He is being tested in his beliefs. He is asking questions of himself – we all do in difficult moments in time.

“That’s when you need support, the club behind you and the team behind you and at this moment that is what they really need.”

Hart, speaking on the BBC, as quoted by Metro.

Postecoglou is under even more pressure after the FA Cup exit, with the Europa League the only remaining tournament winning which could help him back up his “I always win in my second season” boast and end Spurs’ trophy drought.

Even Spurs captain Son Heung-min has not escaped criticism after the game, with former Spurs forward Jermaine Defoe stating after the game that the South Korean veteran was “hiding” at centre-forward.

Up next for the Lilywhites is a Premier League home game against fellow strugglers Man United next Sunday.

TTLB Opinion

Managers in Postecoglou’s predicament usually throw players under the bus, if not directly then at least they try their best to direct blame away from them. The 59-year-old has, to that end, blamed injuries, but interestingly he was very particular with his words after the game to make sure his players weren’t the ones taking the blame first and foremost, as he went out of his way to attract most of the criticism.

“If it’s to get rid of me that’s fine. Good on you. Go for it a million times. But in terms of this group of players, what they’ve given over the past two and a half months has been outstanding.”

This is unquestionably admirable. We maintain our stance in terms of Postecoglou’s suitability for Spurs going forward—he should be moved on. But moments like these are where his magnetism shines through, which reminds us why players continue toiling for him, and why former players like Hart are willing to support him through thick and thin.

More Tottenham News:

Hopefully, at the end of the day, all this also be reflected in terms of positive results on the field. In football, the results are the bottom line and unless the team experiences the success they deserve, morale and camaraderie will certainly not be at 100 percent. Tottenham next face Manchester United at home in the Premier League.

Ruben Amorim’s side are enjoying a similarly poor season and anything short of a win in front fo their one fans will only make life harder for Ange Postecoglou.
