Djed Spence has managed to turn around his fortunes at Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham full-back Djed Spence has managed to do the unthinkable and revive his career at N17. The England U-21 international never quite made his mark at Hotspur Way following his switch from Middlesbrough in 2022. The 25-year-old looked out of place from minute-one, and at one point it looked like the big move had come too early for him.
The talented full-back was sent out on numerous loans to different clubs in Europe, as the Lilywhites looked to cash-in on the defender once and for all just last summer. Djed Spence spent time in Genoa in his last loan spell, with the Serie A outlet having the chance of signing the defender on a permanent deal once the loan ended. They opted against doing that, proving it to be a blessing in disguise for the North London in hindsight.
The Spurs full-back managed to break into the starting eleven midway through last season, and his positive performances helped him earn a regular place in the squad under Ange Postecoglou. But that was just the start for the Englishman, as he looked to revive his career at N17 and become a fan-favourite at the club.

Now, it finally looks like Tottenham can be considered a home for Djed Spence. The full-back is settled in at N17 and his consistent performances week in week out has earned him a new contract extension at the club. The Englishman is also a key part of Thomas Frank’s setup, and his versatility can prove to be a decisive factor for regular game time under the Danish tactician.
Speaking after extending his contract with the Lilywhites, Spence told the Tottenham media team,
“I’m over the moon. I’m happy to sign and I just can’t wait to start the season. I just want to keep playing well and reach higher levels. Everyone has trials and tribulations, but you know I’m a fighter so I always work hard, try to do my best and come back from there.”
The Spurs full-back added,
“It’s been difficult. It’s been a rollercoaster road, for every challenge I’ve been resilient and fast forward I’m here now and I’m happy so I’m just over the moon with everything.”
Djed Spence is ‘over the moon’ after signing a new contract at N17, and understandably so. The talented full-back is aiming to play at the highest level and perform consistently for the Lilywhites now. The Spurs defender adds that he is a ‘fighter’ after managing to rejuvenate his Tottenham career. And he also admitted that it has been a rollercoaster road for him at N17 after enduring a tough time under different managers. But the 25-year-old is finally feeling at home and wants to make his mark at the club in the coming years.
