Newly-promoted Bundesliga club HSV Hamburger have been in negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur for Luka Vuskovic
Tottenham Hotspur have managed to carve out two positive results in the opening two games of the 2025/26 season. They swept aside newly-promoted Burnley 3-0 in their season-opener, before stunning Manchester City 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium last weekend.
Five goals scored and zero goals conceded in the Premier League so far. No wonder why Thomas Frank is loving life in north London, despite how the transfer window has panned out for Spurs. Both signing and moving on players has been an issue for the Lilywhites this summer. With the window entering its final week, the club still has a lot to work on both incomings and outgoings front.
Football London journalist Alasdair Gold stated earlier this month that Tottenham have made Luka Vuskovic available for loan this season. Bundesliga club HSV Hamburger have been trying to sign the Croatian defender for this campaign. Thomas Frank perhaps feels the youngster would benefit from going out on loan, despite the player being hugely impressive in his Spurs debut against Reading in pre-season.

Ex-Spurs scout criticises Tottenham’s treatment of Luka Vuskovic
The Spurs gaffer has named Vuskovic on the bench for both of his side’s Premier League games, but he may now be unavailable for him moving forward. This is because HSV Hamburger are reportedly in negotiations with the North Londoners for the teenager, with an agreement expected soon.
Regardless of the big Croat agreeing personal terms with the German club, the Lilywhites have been stalling a deal for some time. This has not gone down well with former scout Bryan King. He feels a move to the Bundesliga would be ideal for Vuskovic’s development, but has slammed the club’s treatment of the deal.
“I think Hamburg would suit him,” Bryan King exclusively told Tottenham News.
“The Bundesliga always seems to suit Croatian players. There’s been a lot that have taken that pathway. Hamburg got promoted last year, and it’s a fantastic place to play; they’ve got a great stadium and big crowds.
“It’s a very interesting one for the player, I think it would do him the world of good if he spent the year there.
“But, it seems like a very poor way for Spurs to do business; it’s very poor man-management for me.”

Tottenham must sort out the defender’s future quickly
Vuskovic’s future has been a topic of discussion since the start of pre-season, and while there are fans who want him to be a part of Frank’s squad this term, it would certainly make no sense if he stays and gets limited opportunities to play. A player of his talent and age must get regular opportunities to fulfil his true potential.
That said, Daniel Levy and Co. must accelerate the negotiations with Hamburg for the Croat. We must ensure the deal should not get dragged into the final days of the window, allowing Vuskovic to move quickly to Hamburg and settle down ahead of an exciting season.
