Tottenham to battle Man United for 22-year-old Middlesbrough star

Tottenham are set to continue monitoring Hayden Hackney’s progress at Middlesbrough
Tottenham Hotspur honcho Daniel Levy did come through in the recently concluded transfer window, bringing in some quality players through the doors at White Hart Lane.
It looked at one point that Spurs fans will have to be content with the signing of goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague. However, Levy and Co. accelerated their work behind the scenes amid the growing injury list. In came defender Kevin Danso on loan from RC Lens last weekend before the Lilywhites pulled out all the stops to sign highly-rated forward Mathys Tel on loan from Bayern Munich on deadline day.
While Spurs missed out on a few deals in January, the Hotspur Way chiefs have seemingly started planning out for the summer transfer window. Now, according to an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT, Tottenham are preparing to lock horns with Manchester United for the signing of highly-regarded Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney.

Hayden Hackney, who has been on Spurs’ radar since last year, was the subject of two bids from FC Porto in the recently concluded winter window. However, Middlesbrough immediately rejected the bids as they valued the 22-year-old a lot higher and did not want to sell him amid their promotion charge.
The Redcar-born talent has been among the standout players for Michael Carrick’s Boro side over the last two seasons. He has grown leaps and bounds under the tutelage of Carrick, racking up five goals and two assists in 27 Championship appearances this term as the Teesiders eye automatic promotion to the top flight.
Hackney’s performances have gone unnoticed, with Tottenham and Man United understood to have tried tempting Boro into sanctioning his departure in the winter window. The aforementioned report adds that the Premier League duo could land the Englishman by tabling a bid in the region of £20million in the summer.

The central midfielder has a contract at the Riverside Stadium until 2027 (Transfermarkt). Despite missing out on his signature in the previous window, Tottenham and Man United are deciding to continue monitoring Hackney’s progress before potentially pouncing. Their chances of tempting Hackney to leave the Riverside Stadium will become higher should Boro miss out on promotion.

As for Tottenham, Ange Postecoglou has talented young midfielders in Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall—recruited from Leeds United and IF Djurgardens, respectively in 2024. Hackney’s signing would further enhance the pool of young talents at Spurs, as at 22, he fits the profile of signings Levy and Co. have been making in recent years.
Given Hackney’s consistent performances in the Championship and high ceiling, Spurs must pull out all the stops to beat Man United to his signature in the summer.
